DRYLAND VAIL
Age: 46
Hometown: Walla Walla, Washington
Ski or Ride: Both
Holiday Indulgence: Wine and specifically Champagne. My husband is a Master Sommelier and we’ve traveled to Epernay and Reims together visiting iconic Champagne houses in France.
Workout Go-To: In the winter, I like to dawn patrol uphill at local ski resorts — but on snowshoes! I see some of my highest heart rates running uphill with snowshoes on.
Top 3 Tips:
1) Even 30 minutes of training is worth the effort. 20 minutes of some aerobic activity and 10 minutes of body weight strength exercises (like squats, lunges, pushups) can still be a great metabolism boost, mind clearing for our mental health, and energizing to help recharge and be productive.
2) Schedule your training like a meeting. I actually block the time in my calendar and hold it as a hard stop. I also try to start the day with a workout, so that I feel accomplished early and my day doesn’t get away from me.
3) You can’t out-exercise a poor diet. I recommend filling your plate with more vegetables when you can and limiting refined sugar and processed food. If you can replace some of those choices with a healthy option consistently, the incremental gains pay off.

1000m -> 750m -> 500m -> 250m
40 -> 30 -> 20 -> 10
Top 3 Tips:
1) Pick one thing to start and stick with it. Committing to eating healthier 5 days a week OR 10K steps a day OR exercising 3 days a week. Don’t try to do everything from the get-go.
2) Enjoy the holidays. Eat those cookies, have the pie, drink wine, don’t deprive yourself of these yummy things.
3) Establish your goals for yourself and write them down. Make sure they are specific, measurable, attainable and bound by time (I recommend 3 months at a time) so you can check in with yourself and see where you are.
