GRAVITY HAUS EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT

MEET: JEN POLCER

Meet Jen Polcer. A People Operations powerhouse and travel connoisseur. Life lately finds her around a Haus location or on the road traveling to the next. Get to know her below!

Q: First, tell us about your outdoor industry background!

A: I graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Business Management and moved directly to Vail after graduation to learn how to snowboard! After a few seasons in the mountains, I moved down to Denver where my HR career in Hospitality began. From the Grand Hyatt Denver to Hyatt Regency Miami, to the opening of the Hotel Victor on South Beach Florida and finally to the Hyatt Regency Waikiki – my eight years at Hyatt were nothing less than amazing! My next chapter was with Hawaiian Airlines, another incredible 8 years in a fascinating industry filled with wonderful people. I was fortunate enough to travel extensively and pursue an unexpected passion for outrigger canoe paddling. After 10 years of racing and two world championships, my Hawaiian chapter came to a close as I moved back to the mainland, to Indianapolis to start a new position with a focus on Affirmative Action Compliance and in a non-profit organization, I helped 900 member companies navigate the space of compliance with a focus on hiring women, minorities, individuals with disabilities, and veterans.

The hospitality industry is a huge yet small one and a former colleague from my Hyatt days alerted me of an incredible new company that was “right up my alley.” WIthout a doubt, I found the perfect fit for me, no longer having to divide “work” and “life.” At Gravity Haus, I’m doing what I love, both personally and professionally while surrounded by others doing the same!

Q: Sweet. What drew you specifically to Gravity Haus?

A: The amazing team doing the coolest things! I’ve always thrived while being on various sports teams. The energy and camaraderie to be the best while having fun, at Gravity Haus that’s exactly what we are – a team. Every position is critical and every win is a team effort. Our personal goals are an important part of how our time and efforts are spent. Taking care of ourselves and our fellow Members is our top priority.

Q: What are your favorite mountain life activities?

A: I picked up fat biking and cross country skiing during COVID when the mountain was closed. I’ve come to really love both of these winter activities as my Pup can come along! We love to camp and do all things outside, rafting, biking, hiking…

Q: Every adventure lover has a bucket list. What’s on yours?

A: Travel! I was fortunate enough to climb to Everest Base Camp and hope to do great adventures in as many countries as possible. Patagonia is on the list and my obsession for completing lists means all of the National Parks and all of the class II 14ers (I used to think all, but have come to realize my fear of heights and therefore a lack of enjoyment of rock climbing has that list a bit revised.

What brought you to Colorado?

We moved to Colorado Springs from Arizona when I was in the 4th grade, due to my father’s work. We lived there for three years and then moved to Virginia for my fathers work. I love Colorado and returned promptly after college, to Vail. Although my own career then took me away, I managed to find my way back again when COVID allowed me to work remote.

When you’re not supporting our teammates here at GH, where can we find you?

Out and about with my fiance Dave and puppy Marley Mae. We live in Durango now, and spend all our free time exploring this wonderful hidden gem in Colorado!

Q: What’s your superpower?

A: Insane organization. My toolbelt consists of a label maker, colored pens, tabs and folders. I love to organize everything!

Q: What about hidden talents?

A: Typically only shows up on the dance floor, but I can do the splits.

Q: Mantra you live by?

A: In a world where you can be anything, be nice.

Q: Words of wisdom for like-minded adventurers or aspiring people operations professionals?

A: We all start as beginners. Be humble, except set-backs as stepping stones to move forward. As you learn, bring others along with you.
