GRAVITY HAUS MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

MEET: MATT TULLMAN

THE OUTLIER HEALTH CO-FOUNDER & CEO ADVOCATES FOR PREVENTATIVE HEALTH.

There’s no surprise that our fast food and processed junk culture is killing us from the inside. Nearly one third of Americans have a metabolic disorder — diabetes or pre-diabetes — entirely created by lifestyle choices and diet. Thankfully, CEO of the No Meat Athlete, Matt Tullman says, it’s entirely reversible by changing our lifestyle choices and diet.

Tullman is a Vail Gravity Haus member and social impact entrepreneur who helped launch Outlier Health, the parent company of No Meat Athlete. He now runs No Meat Athlete and created Complement, a supplement, or complement, to a whole foods diet. He has dedicated his career to growing nutrition-first health companies to help catalyze the movement to a plant-based lifestyle for the mainstream consumer.

His companies have served nearly 13 million people in the past three years. No Meat Athlete is about giving people tools, not preaching. They provide training tips, meal plans, recipes, coaching on how to transition, and inspiration.

Tullman’s path to preventative wellness began when he became his 86-year-old grandfather’s post-surgery and, sadly, end-of-life caretaker.

“It was a great lesson for me,” Tullman says. “I wanted to do whatever I could to keep myself and loved ones out of the mainstream medical system. Fundamentally, bad things happen in hospitals. That’s what lead me to preventative wellness.”

After his grandfather’s passing, Tullman took some time off from his ed-tech firm (he founded The Digital Education Company, digedu, which helped K-12 schools transition from textbooks to technology) and learned everything he could about health and care systems. He helped found the No Meat Athlete and created Complement, a supplement, or complement, to a whole foods diet.

“I’m very proud to say it’s only been about four years in earnest and we made the Inc. 500 list of fastest-growing companies."

He’s optimistic that the plant-based lifestyle and fitness movement is on the rise and that more and more people are taking notice of our broken food system.

“Unfortunately, we’re feeding the country with extremely processed food and extremely calorie-dense food,” he says. “We’re putting way too much energy into people and, as a result, we’re causing heart disease and diseases of excess.”

The answer? A medical system that encourages preventative health and includes plant-based nutrition. Learn more about Tullman and the No Meat Athlete movement.

Get to know Gravity Haus member Craig Bettis better:

Q. What’s your favorite plant-based meal?

A. Chickpea meatloaf with a nice glaze. It’s like regular meatloaf without the harm.

Q. Where do you find inspiration?

A. I don’t suffer from lack of motivation. Every day is a blessing. That’s something you come away with when you hold someone’s hand as they die. Everyday is an opportunity to make an impact.

Q. What do you love about Gravity Haus?

A. The sauna and cold plunge. My wife and I did a little staycation prior to our third child, we got massages, and I was sold on the membership. The science behind the sauna and heat shock proteins and cold shock proteins is incredible. I try and get that in every day. I work from home and I like being the first one at Gravity Haus knocking out a few hours of work, knocking out a workout, reading in the sauna and doing a cold plunge.

Q. What’s on your nightstand right now?

A. How to Invest by David Rubenstein, When by Daniel Pink and The New Map by Daniel Yergin.

Q. Three things you can’t live without?

A. My wife, water — I drink a lot of water, about a gallon a day — and tea.
