GRAVITY HAUS PARTNER SPOTLIGHT: ROSSIGNOL
One of the world’s premier ski equipment manufacturers, Rossignol was born in the French Alps over 100 years ago and quickly became leader in ski technology and design. The French brand built their name as a top alpine, snowboard and nordic equipment manufacturer and were one of the first companies to produce plastic skis.
Today, Rossignol champions their efforts of respectful production and building products for the world’s best winter sport athletes. They use FSC-certified wood, have a solar-powered headquarters in France and they’re working to make their Sallanches industrial site the leading recyclable ski factory in France and a major repair center to extend the life of Rossignol products.
Why Rossignol?
Gravity Haus chose to partner with Rossignol for its superior quality of gear, but also because they’re leading the industry toward a more sustainable way of producing products, which aligns beautifully with the Gravity Haus true north question “Is it good for the planet?”
“They’ve just launched the world’s first recyclable ski at a time when many brands are still not able to affect the end of life of their products or appreciably offset the impact of making them,” says Haus Quiver program head Matt Pacocha.
Rossignol Product Shoutout
Be sure to check out the Rossignol BlackOps line this winter. The 176cm BlackOps 118 is Rossignol athlete Tatum Monod’s pro model. It comes in one size (hers) and has her dog Burley hidden in the scene inspired by Monod’s other passion, fishing, and created by David Habben.
Rossignol athlete Parker White’s BlackOps 118 gets a swamp scene, also by Habben, and comes in the 186cm length only; you know, Parker’s size.
While these skis are acclaimed by reviewers, they’re for special days, says Gravity Haus gear guru Matt Pacocha. For the everyday, the BlackOps 98 is a quiver of one. It’s got the pop of poplar and titanal underfoot for durability and stability. The ski’s 98mm width (underfoot) is as good as it is in the park and during low tide as it is on a healthy resort pow day. The best part? It comes in your size too, with four options ranging from 162 to 192 in 10cm increments.
