Experience Fall Foliage in Breckenridge

The term “colorful Colorado” truly shines through during the Fall in Colorado. The Aspens turn from green to a breathtaking yellow-orange and light up mountainsides for miles throughout Colorado.

Breckenridge in Summit County is home to a plethora of leaf-peeping trails and we’ve compiled a list of our 5 favorite Fall foliage trails in Breckenridge for the ultimate leaf peeping adventure this Fall!

1. Boreas pass

Whether you want to hike, bike, drive, camp or picnic, Boreas Pass is the perfect Fall foliage destination. Take Boreas Pass Road through the Aspens all the way up to a Breckenridge historical landmark – Bakers Tank. Learn more about Boreas Pass Road here.

2. ASPEN ALLEY

Aspen Alley, much like it’s name is bountiful with fiery Aspens. Lace up your hiking boots for this moderate-incline 2.6 mile hike. Prefer to do your leaf peeping from 2 wheels? Aspen Alley is a well-traveled bike trail too, offering smooth berms and Aspen views for days.  Learn more about Aspen Alley here.

3. SALLIE BARBER MINE

Get a double dose of adventure with a trek to Sallie Barber Mine whilst enjoying the Fall colors. If fido is with you, bring him on the excursion! The views from the top are equally as stunning as the trees along the way.  Learn more about Sallie Barber Mine here.

4. RAINBOW LAKE TRAIL

If we’re getting technical here, Rainbow Lake Trail is in Frisco, just a ~15 minute drive from Breck Haus. Rainbow Lake Trail is perfect for a short walkabout with the family or a group of friends who wants to embark on a leisurely stroll to see the Fall foliage. The total distance is only 1.5 miles with minimal incline but gorgeous views to boot! Learn more about Rainbow Lake Trail here.

5. carter park to jack's cruel joke

Head to the Carter Park parking lot and locate Moonstone Trail. Climb the stairs (it’s okay if you need to take a break – you’ll have killer views of the ski resort behind you). At the top of the stairs, take a right to Jack’s Cruel Joke – a fairly steep trail with switchbacks through Aspen forests. Learn more about Carter Park to Moonstone here and Jack’s Cruel Joke here.
