5 Outdoor Lifestyle Traditions to Begin This Holiday Season

Focus on health and happiness during the holidays with these Colorado family winter rituals.

Swap the cookies for carving, cut down your own tree and prioritize fresh mountain air and feeling good this holiday season.

Holiday traditions like thick cheesy fondue, drinking games and Grandma’s oh-so-tasty fudge and peanut brittle are fantastic, no doubt, but creating your own healthy holiday traditions is key to a merry and bright season, too!

Here are some Gravity Haus teammates’ outdoor traditions to begin this season:

SNOWSHOE

“We always snowshoe to cut down our family Christmas tree. This year we found an amazing, beautiful new location outside of Fairplay. The fresh air, views and family time can’t be beat — even though we look like the Griswold’s driving home on 285. Little full. Lotta sap!”

Matt Windt, Gravity Haus EVP Marketing + Communications

JUST GET OUTSIDE + GET AHEAD (OF ’23)

“I suggest getting outside no matter what and doing it with people you love. Bundling up, and taking a stroll around the neighborhood at night to see Christmas lights is a simple way to make this happen! Find times of mindfulness, whether that is meditation, taking a walk and listening to holiday music, or spending time around the dinner table with your closest people and reflecting on the year. And, finally, map out the month (or week ahead) with workouts. Putting them on your schedule just like any other appointment will help keep you on track with your fitness goals, and also keep your mind and body level in a notoriously stressful time of year.”

—Amy Peterson, Gravity Haus Denver Dryland Director and General Manager

MAKE IT A MULTI-DAY EVENT

“Christmas Eve usually includes a skin with a friend and then a homemade breakfast at my place with a couple of girlfriends. Christmas Day (for this little Jewish girl) is a nice quiet day to make some resort turns. I don’t celebrate, so that’s how I honor the day with friends who do. New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day usually includes some pond hockey and hot chocolate with friends.”

Andrea Rosenthal, Gravity Haus Director of Member Success

SKI, HIKE, SOAK

“My daughter and I plan on skiing Vail Mountain on Christmas and getting a photo together next to the Christmas run sign. We also are looking forward to a hike and hot springs experience on Christmas Eve.”

Nadine Hinkle, Director of Dryland Fitness & Spa Vail

SEIZE THE DAY

“I like Christmas to last all day long, and hate when it’s ‘over’ when presents are unwrapped first thing in the morning! I prefer getting up early and going for an early morning brisk uphill tour or cross country ski. Followed by a well-rounded breakfast where everyone contributes something — Unravel Coffee to drink, of course! After breakfast, everyone showers and gets into their favorite Christmas sweater AND THEN the present opening begins.”
