GRAVITY HAUS EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT

MEET: KATIE JACQUEMIN

While Katie might be new to the Gravity Haus scene, she’s anything but new when it comes to the hospitality world. Katie started earning her stripes in the industry during her time at Michigan State studying hospitality business. Get to know Katie both professionally and personally below!

Q: First, tell us about your hospitality industry background!

A: I graduated from Michigan State’s Hospitality Business program and have been in hotels ever since. I started out of college in a manager in training program with Vail Resorts, spanning 2 years and over four locations. After the training program I worked in Keystone overseeing guest services and front desk operations for over 2k privately owned rental properties. I then moved over to Vail as the Director of Rooms at the Arrabelle, overseeing their residential component and all rooms operations. In between I assisted in transitioning a resort in the Bahamas to our management company.

From there I joined Four Seasons in Denver and have been there the last six years as their Hotel Manager, overseeing all day to day operations of the hotel and residences. During my time with Four Seasons I graduated from an accelerated GM Academy course with Cornell University.

Q: Sweet, what a fun and impressive background! What drew you specifically to Gravity Haus?

A: The community is great, the team practices every day what we want our guests and members to experience, and all have similar values. It is rewarding to work with a team that all pushes hard together towards common goals. I like the disruption to a regular hotel model and the creative direction we are moving in with the brand.

Q: What are your favorite mountain life / Colorado activities?

A: I love camping and SUP on the Colorado rivers.  Sailing will also always be a lifelong passion of mine.

Q: What’s on your bucket list?

A: I would like to sail in the Transpac sailing race from CA to Hawaii.

Q: When you’re not at a Gravity Haus, where can we find you?

A: Playing with my daughter, camping with my family or playing outside!

Q: What’s your superpower?

A: I would say I am fairly empathic; working with diverse people my entire career I am pretty good at reading people.

Q: What about hidden talents?

A: I am pretty handy!  Installing cabinets, tiling, painting etc. I enjoy a good project with a tangible result.

Q: Mantra you live by?

A: Don’t let opportunities for life experiences go by, try it! You don’t want to wake up regretting not doing something.

Don’t be afraid if you are bad or new at something – push through.

Q: What do you love about Gravity Haus so far?

A: I love the community so far. Getting to know everyone and seeing them at the different locations.  I hosted my first JoinMe this past week and met three new people who I really enjoyed getting to know and build connections with.

The amazing Dryland team has made working out fun for me again and I feel better than I have in a long time. The Dryland community is like having a gym buddy to motivate you-only so much better and stronger and more motivating!

The mentality for the team is so ‘do whatever it takes’ which is really inspiring.  In my first month we did a team retreat in Moab and it was such a wonderful experience getting to know everyone while playing hard in the environment we all love.  Work hard, play hard and have fun doing all of it!

Q: Words of wisdom for like-minded adventurers?

Be brave! Show up! Come try something new with someone new and you never know what doors this may open in your life.

Q: We hear you’re hiring – what roles are currently available on your team?

A: We are looking for some fun and inspiring leaders for housekeeping and front office at our Vail location as well as some spa technicians and on-call fitness coaches to increase our classes offerings.

In Breckenridge and Vail we have a number of F&B leadership positions posted, including floor managers, an F&B Director and Event Management.

Come check us out, shoot me an email or send me a note on any social channel to talk GH!
