About This Trip

Both the Polar Star Inn and Seipel Huts are privately owned huts next door to one another that are managed by the 10th Mountain Division. Built in 1987, they are located just below timberline at 11,040′ on the west side of New York Mountain, in central Colorado. Polar Star has a big deck that looks west over the Colorado Plateau: a sunset watcher’s paradise.

After hiking or biking (your choice!) nearly 6 miles to the huts on day one, kick off your hiking boots and unwind with dinner courtesy of Slope Room (no dehydrated potatoes for you), before gazing at the stars from the deck overlooking the Colorado Plateau.

The next morning, enjoy breakfast and coffee before heading out on a guided day-hike to New York Mountain – we’ll lunch along the way! There will be plenty of downtime to explore, mountain bike or rest with a book on the deck. Dinner will again be from Slope Room.

On the final morning, after more caffeine and calories at the breakfast table, you’ll make the journey back to the trailhead, to mark the completion of your trek.

September 9

September 10

• Breakfast with Unravel coffee
• Guided hike to New York Mountain, with a stop for lunch along the way – expect 2-3 miles with 1,380′ of gain.
• Optional: Mountain Bike on the popular trail on old Fulford Road that descends from the west end of Fulford down to East Brush Creek
• Après drinks and snacks
• Supper by Slope Room – Chef Berto and his team prepared all items in advance at Slope Room for an elevated dining experience
• Take in the full moon post-dinner from the patio!
• Overnight at the huts (BYO sleeping bag and pillow)

September 11

• Breakfast with Unravel coffee
• Hike or bike down to trailhead

• Skill level: Intermediate to Advanced. You will be biking or trekking over 17 miles and 3,000 feet over the course of this experience, much of the time with a pack.
• Group Size: 12 attendees, professional photographer, two Paragon Guides guides and two Gravity Haus teammates
