It’s time to dig deep and sweat your face off!
DRYLAND WINTER PARK
- Coach: Katie Hardie, Director of Performance
- Location: Dryland Fitness Winter Park
- Kick-Your-Ass Class: Pow Prep
This is the ultimate ski-conditioning class. Hardie describes it as a combo of strength training and high-intensity interval training. Expect high heart rates and lots of leg burning and core work. Be ready for box jumps, disc slides, squats, lunges and Bosu balancing that will transfer from the gym to the slopes and then to grueling uphill summertime singletrack. Deadlifts and squat racks provide a strength workout without bulking up. Go through the class circuit four times as fast as you can. You’ll be sweaty. But you’ll also be in tip-top ski shape.
“The ski season is young,” Hardie says. “The big dumps happen in March and your legs need to last at least through April for that spring snow goodness. You’ll thank yourself all year for the February strength training!”
DRYLAND DENVER
- Coach: Amy Peterson, General Manager
- Location: Gravity Haus Denver
- Kick-Your-Ass Class: Adventure Ready
Focus on small mechanics and foundational movements that create strong bodies for all the voyages and ventures with an Adventure Ready sweat session. Coaches incorporate unilateral moves and exercises that emphasize balance and stability and increase mobility, agility and joint integrity. Expect some core work, cardio, upper body explosiveness, hurdle jumps and other exercises that mimic movements you’d make in your favorite sports.
“Adventure Ready is always featured all day on Fridays so you will get a great workout in, not be super sore, and be ready for whatever the weekend has in store for you and your adventures,” Peterson says.
DRYLAND VAIL
- Coach: Jen Razee, Director of Dryland Fitness & Spa
- Location: Dryland Fitness & Spa Vail
- Kick-Your-Ass Class: Elevate Yoga
For Razee, it’s all about the après yoga sessions. Vinyasa-based classes clear your mind and elevate body and spirit. Concentrate on your breath for an hour and release any tension you’ve been holding onto. Expect heat-cultivating sun salutations, standing and seated postures, back bends, arm balances and sweaty soulful flows.
“Nothing makes me sweat like one of our talented yoga team members leading a session with a sequence that includes pigeon,” Razee says. “I swear our instructors see my tight cycling hips coming and they know exactly what I need, even if they have to get me lots of bolsters and blocks.”
DRYLAND BRECK
- Coach: Linzee Vito, Director of Performance
- Location: Dryland Fitness Breckenridge
- Kick-Your-Ass Class: Breck Barbell
Keep stoke high, get your whole body trained and resist injury when you’re out playing in the mountains. This specialized class teaches you all about barbell lifting styles. Coaches tackle movements such as snatches, cleans, presses, jerks, deadlifts, squats and more. The class is limited in size so you can enjoy hands-on instruction. All levels are welcome.
